Good for a grin

You’ll regret this, publius.
You too, Nephew.
# The Gods Must Be Petty (publius, “Obsidian Wings”) –
It’s interesting that religious people – including me at one point – tend to ignore causation when praying for help. Bad stuff just sort of happens, but then the benevolent God might be persuaded to fix it if we ask him. It’s like a bit like asking Oswald if he would be so kind as to bring JFK some bandages.

I don’t know & you don’t either
# Al Hunt, of Bloomberg TV, responding to Robert Novak’s diatribe on superinvestor Warren Buffett favoring an estate tax:
Bob, there’s only two differences between you and Warren Buffett: $40 billion and a conscience.
Haven’t noticed Bloomberg joining in the fight to save the estate tax. So my guess is Hunt will be fired, giving Novak the last laugh. Still: good one, Al!

College undergrad?! Oh well — take that, Roy Edroso, Avedon Carol, and Uggabugga! Finally, my propensity for $20 words, multiple adjectives, and sentences that are 50% too long has come in handy, propelling me into the exalted upper echelons of the blogosphere.

I come in at an undergrad level too. In search of parameters, I checked Yglesias on a hunch - his Atlantic blog clocked in at the post-grad level.

Good for us! I read somewhere it has to do with using paragraphs — an advanced writing trick, learned it in a Harvard correspondence course.
Speaking of Harvard, I think Yglesias is decent and generally has something intelligent to say, even if what he says sometimes burns me up. I’d just observe that his rating must be insensitive to poor spelling — he makes more egregious errors than I’d have thought possible — latest one I noticed was “worth” for “worst”?! Maybe he uses dictation software.
Computer-rating writing is ridiculous anyway, of course. Edroso is one of the best writers out there, I think. If he’s high school, I’m kindergarten.

Thanks for all these on a grey day with a loooong drive ahead. The Al Hunt line is particularly fine. Happy thanksgiving to you and yours!
